Visual Identity and Event Design for Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre
Creative Direction
The spiritual event theme derives from a combination of three inspirational sources. First, the depiction of the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel in Buddhism. Second, the belief of inner wealth or Buddha Nature. Lastly, from the Lotus Sutra parable, "The Jewel in the Robes".
The maximalist key visual design represents these spiritual narratives and the attributes of His Holiness – the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa who graced the event.
Brass and pink pastel tones makes up the majority of the colour scheme, with supporting primary colours.
The graphic elements of concentric circles denotes 'looking within' for innate values of wisdom and compassion to serve outer wealth.
Typography selections across promotional adverts and websites.
Supporting illustrations for the logo include the Wish-fulfilling Jewel or Cintamani and the eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism depicted as 'jewel beads sewn in the robes'. The symbolism as shown in image (above from top row), Victory Banner, Wheel of Dharma, Parasol, Lotus, Treasure Vase, Golden Fish, Conch and Endless Knot.
Applying the wish-fulfilling jewel against the backdrop of gold-gilded lotus into a maximalist style logo. The event title is in English and flanked by a pair of Chinese couplets. Eight auspicious symbols complete the logo set as 'jewel beads'.
The eight-day-long spiritual event was presented in billingual program posters with colour coded premises for each session.
Attendees posed for the concluding gala dinner with a five meters long event banner.
Ardent supporters are recognised with Certificate of Appreciation endorsed and signed by His Holiness 17th Gyalwa Karmapa and Venerable Shangpa Rinpoche. Typefaces and the adapted logo are utilised into the design.
